In a surprising recent survey from Delta Dental, it appears that Americans wish to see their dentist MORE often than they get a chance to. It is recommended that you visit your dentist every six months for a professional cleaning and checkup, and it is excellent to know that patients are understanding the value that these visits have for not only their oral health but also their overall health and well being.

Your dentist in Chico, CA explains why these visits are so critical.

Periodontal Health and Your Overall Health

As more information emerges about the connection between periodontal health and overall health, we can see why consistent visits to the dentist every six months are so important. It's now understood that since the same bacteria that causes periodontal, or gum disease can travel through the bloodstream, it may also contribute to other health concerns such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and vice versa.

Regular examinations with your dentist are needed to monitor your oral health on a routine basis, and cleanings will remove the excessive plaque buildup that causes gum disease.

Early Detection

Diagnosing certain dental conditions as early as possible gives patients the benefit of more successful and less invasive treatment procedures. Your dentist will screen you for gum disease, oral cancer, tooth decay, and cavities during every examination. This allows them to make you aware of any concerns as early as possible.
