Bonded Restorations in Chico CA
The chances are good that at some point in your life you will need a dental restoration. According to the CDC, nine out of ten people will experience some level of dental caries (cavities).
Cavities require prompt treatment to remove tooth decay and prevent further damage. Dr. Daniel Surh uses tooth-colored composite material to fill cavities and restore the tooth back to full function.
Preventing Dental Decay
Improper oral hygiene habits are the most common cause of tooth decay. Good home hygiene habits combined with routine professional cleanings will prevent most cavities.
The CDC recommends these steps for keeping your teeth healthy:
- Brush at least twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.
- Floss between your teeth daily.
- Eat a healthy diet and limit between-meal snacking.
- Visit the dentist for professional cleanings and exams twice per year.
- Talk to your dentist about fluoride, sealants, and other preventive treatments.
Good oral health habits will cut down your risk for cavities, but we have yet to eliminate cavities entirely. We recommend regular visits so that Dr. Surh can catch any developing cavities early. This allows for more conservative treatment methods.
At South Chico Dental Care, we use digital dental x-rays to diagnose tooth decay and other common dental conditions. Digital x-rays emit very low radiation levels, and we take additional precautions to make sure you are kept safe.
If Dr. Surh does discover tooth decay, we will schedule a filling appointment. Once you are completely numb, relaxed, and comfortable, Dr. Surh will remove all traces of bacteria and tooth decay. The small hole will then be filled in with tooth-colored composite filling material. This seals off the area and protects the tooth from further damage. The restoration will then be shaped and polished so that it perfectly matches the surface of the tooth. We believe that dentistry can be both functional and aesthetic!
Do You Have Cavities?
Common symptoms of cavities include discomfort and sensitivity to temperature changes. Cavities can also develop without any symptoms at all.
